The Sydney Myofascial Release Centre

In every person’s life, there will be times when injuries, aches and pains occur. Often, doctors will prescribe pain control medication to help you ‘ride it out’ while the body heals, but this seldom helps the cause of the problem, and may even result in cascading injuries from that one initial problem.

At the Sydney Myofascial Release Centre we have developed a system of working with the body that is a grounded, wholistic and a structural approach to bodywork – Core Body Therapy. This is a complete system of bodywork that locates, and addresses, the root cause of your pain. We use a number of different techniques to assist your body to heal.

What I like about Chris’s treatments is that it is a full body approach as he tunes in and listens deeply with his hands and his heart at everything that may be affecting the area of pain so other body parts can free up and you can feel yourself slowly letting go on a physical and emotional level as he unravels deep held restrictions, tension and stress patterns.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle bodywork practice that employs a light touch to correct and harmonise the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system includes the bones of the head (cranium), the dura mater (the connective tissue surrounding the brain), the spinal dura (the connective tissue surrounding the spinal cord) and the sacrum. These structures house and protect the brain, spinal cord and cerebrospinal fluid. The goal of craniosacral therapy is to release and correct restrictions in the craniosacral system, to promote functioning of the central nervous system and flow of the cerebral spinal fluid.

What is the Cranial Rhythm?

Craniosacral Therapy uses a light touch to connect to the Cranial Rhythm. The Cranial Rhythm is the ebb and flow of the cerebrospinal fluid as it flows from the brain along the spinal cord to the sacrum and back again. The cranial bones and sacrum express this rhythm through subtle motion. These subtle movements can be felt and followed to make corrections to the bones within the craniosacral system. Relieving tension in the Central Nervous System promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity. Craniosacral Therapy is based on the idea that the body is interrelated at all levels.

Craniosacral therapy is very effective in the treatment of:
  • Lower back and pelvic pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome
  • Teeth grinding
  • Post dental procedures
What is a Craniosacral Therapy treatment like?

Your Craniosacral Therapy session lasts approximately 60 minutes. You will remain fully clothed while lying on a massage table.
Using a light touch, the therapist “listens to” your body for tension patterns and imbalances. The therapist assists your body to releasing chronic tension patterns, allowing the body’s healing mechanisms to operate more effectively. The experience of a CST session varies from person to person. A session is deeply relaxing, yet some may describe feeling unwinding sensations as the body releases tension.

Chris O’Brien holds a Diploma in Craniosacral Therapy and has undertaken extensive training with the Upledger Institute, the premier training institute for craniosacral therapy in the world today.

Remedial Massage

Is a style of massage that releases tension in the deepest muscular layers of the body . These tensions perpetuate pain and stiffness especially in the lower back, hips neck and shoulders.

What are the causes of these deeply held tension within the muscles?

Old injuries, poor posture and stress create and continue to perpetuate sore, tense muscles.

What is a Remedial Therapy Massage treatment like?

Your therapist combines advanced deep tissue techniques such as trigger point release, myofascial release and remedial massage to expertly release these deep layers of muscular tension, tender points, knots and break down adhesions between muscular layers to bring your muscular system back into balance.

The Benefits
  • Dramatic reduction in muscular tension and stiffness
  • Ease of movement
  • Improved posture
  • Improved sporting performance
  • Mind/Body Harmony
  • Profound long lasting results

To receive the full benefits of deep tissue massage your therapist will recommend a series of treatments precisely tailored to your individual needs.
